President and CEO, Aspen Institute

Dan Porterfield is president and CEO of the Aspen Institute, a global nonprofit whose purpose is to ignite human potential to build understanding and create new possibilities for a better world. He was previously president of Franklin & Marshall College, which he led in tripling its percentage of low-income students and doubling its percentage of domestic students of color. Prior to F&M, Porterfield was senior vice president for strategic development and an English professor at Georgetown University and a senior public affairs official at the US Department of Health and Human Services. Porterfield is a Rhodes Scholar, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and Council, and a member of the Foreign Relations. He was named a White House Champion of Change in 2016 and is the author of the book "Mindset Matters: The Power of College to Activate Lifelong Growth" about the growing value of college in today’s rapidly changing world.
