Hansel Bauman

Founding Partner, Hansel Bauman Architect + Planner; Campus Architect, Gallaudet University

Hansel Bauman is the campus architect for Gallaudet University, where he has served as adjunct faculty, and founding partner of Hansel Bauman Architect + Planner. A recognized leader in the field of deaf space architecture, he collaborated with Gallaudet’s Department of ASL and Deaf Studies to establish the DeafSpace Project in 2006, exploring the socio-spatial dynamics of deaf experiences. This work, recorded in the DeafSpace Design Guidelines, received the 2015 International Association of Universal Design, Gold Award. Baumann lectures internationally, with work featured at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and in publications such as Metropolis and the Economist magazine.
