Jenniffer Maroa

Program Manager, African Academy of Sciences; HIV-1 Researcher

Jenniffer Maroa is a program manager at the African Academy of Sciences in Kenya. She has spent 16 years as an HIV-1 basic science researcher, working on understanding host innate and immune factors that modulate HIV-1 transmission and pathogenesis and, more specifically, host immune responses in mother-to-child transmission of HIV-1, with the goal of informing antibody-based vaccine design. As the manager for the H3Africa (Human Heredity and Health in Africa) program of the Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AESA) initiative, Maroa’s portfolio includes management and implementation of four projects covering both infectious and non-infectious diseases. She is a 2018 Aspen New Voices Fellow.
