Director, Non-Communicable Disease Program, Botswana Ministry of Health and Wellness

Neo Tapela is a physician and head of the Non-Communicable Diseases Program in the Botswana Ministry of Health and Wellness. She is also engaged in implementation research to generate evidence vital to informed and innovative public health decision-making. Tapela’s experience is in strengthening health systems and effective service delivery for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease, particularly in resource-limited areas in sub-Saharan Africa. She has worked in several countries, including Lesotho, South Africa, and Rwanda, where, as director of the NCDs program at Partners In Health, she spearheaded establishment of a model public cancer center of excellence that has served over 4,000 patients.
