Director, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Robert Redfield is director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. He’s been a clinical researcher of chronic human viral infections and infectious diseases, especially HIV, for over 30 years. Redfield was founding director of the Retroviral Research Department within the US military’s HIV Research Program, co-founded the University of Maryland Institute of Human Virology, and was chief of infectious diseases and vice chair of medicine at University of Maryland School of Medicine. He sat on the President’s Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS from 2005 to 2009, chairing its International Subcommittee from 2006 to 2009.
