Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Community Engagement, Department of Psychiatry; Director of Mental Health Equity Research, Institute for Health Equity Research, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

Sidney Hankerson, MD, MBA is an associate professor and vice chair for community engagement in the psychiatry department at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine, where he also directs mental health equity research at the Institute for Health Equity Research. His research, which he’s presented at the White House and United Nations, among others, focuses on reducing racial and ethnic disparities in mental health treatment by partnering with faith-based organizations. Hankerson was previously a clinical psychiatry professor at Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. The National Academy of Medicine recognized him as one of ten Emerging Leaders in Health and Medicine in 2021. Hankerson was an inaugural member of the American Psychiatric Association’s Council of Faith and Community Partnerships. (Mount Sinai is a 2022 Festival Underwriter)
