William McRaven is a retired U.S. Navy admiral and former chancellor of the University of Texas System. In the military, he commanded all U.S. special operations forces and served in combat during Desert Storm and the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. As chancellor of the University of Texas System, McRaven oversaw 14 institutions that educated 220,000 students. Previously, he was a defense adviser to Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. McRaven is the author of six books, including “Spec Ops: Case Studies in Special Operations Warfare,” “The Hero Code” and a children’s book, “Make Your Bed with Skipper the Seal.” He is an adviser for Lazard Financial Advisory and a board member of Council on Foreign Relations, International Crisis Group and ConocoPhillips.
